Let's talk about Autism and ADHD

A few years back I received my autism diagnosis and quite frankly it was liberating and rather emotional. Finally I understood what I couldn't explain for nearly 60 years. The felling of not belonging on this planet was there from very young and got worse the longer I was in school. I never had a sleepover or a birthday party or was invited to a sleepover or a birthday party. Still I love school because I would learn new things and I was a knowledge hoover. Often knew more than my teachers did, especially in history. I was good with numbers. But I struggled writing until I got very ill at the age of 8 and was at home for 2 or 3 weeks. When I was starting to feel better but couldn't go back to school yet because I had lost so much weight and was too weak to walk, I was bored and my dad asked if I wanted to read. I said yes and he brough me a selection of books we had. I read Moby Dick in a day. I also read Treasure Island, 1001 Arabian Nights and other fairy tale books we had l...

Merry Christmas Book Nook

I absolutely love how this turned out. Despite one piece missing and I had to cut one to size from my spares. And that's why I NEVER throw anything away. The tree was supposed to be smaller and was only lit up with 2 warn white LEDs. Me, hell no! Now trying to find some multicoloured 30cm long LED string lights. Forget it. But I found one that's just 50cm long and it even flashes. Where? Temu!  I will be ordering a couple more, just in case. Scroll down for the video!

The Lodge Detective Agency

Maybe not my favourite, mainly because it didn't have a dust cover, but also most of the paper items were printed on cheap mat paper. OK it was all pre-cut which was a bonus but the quality wasn't great. So the steps needed a coat of Mod Podge to make it look more like tiles. I left the book case as it was but I sanded down the desk and gave it a coat of mahogany varnish and a couple of coats of Mod Podge. Then I also change the handles using leftovers from old kits and pins from my jewellery stuff. And yes the missing dust cover. For now it's wrapped in clingfilm. 😂 I am making now a miniature from the same producer, no dust cover as well, and will order 2 from the place I have ordered before made to measure. I am not sure yet how to deal with the odd shape. But I think it will just be a rectangular box.

Pin Collection Part 1

I used to collect pins, badges and stickers as a kid. Browsing through Temu I found cool pins this collector heart just couldn't resist. They are really great quality and so cheap.

Ancient Chinese Kitchen

Image
This is the kitchen that matches the bedroom. This one has a few adaptations. I stained the kitchen work top, shelves and the stool using powdered pastel colours. Works great staining plain wood. I added an orange LED in the stove so it looks like a fire. I used some orange cellophane to make the LED less harsh. I added a carpet that was a piece of fabric I had leftover from the bedroom set. I added fluffy fabric to the benches to make them look more comfy. I made a bucket out of card and used acrylic paint to create the tin look and the dirt stains. And chopped up some tooth picks for firewood I had to add a window frame on the outside because the window pieces were a tad too small.  I added a curtain rod and a curtain. That was some fabric I had leftover from a previous set. I very much enjoyed making this because of the adaptations.
